About MINET Fiber

ISP - internet service provider

What is MINET?

MINET (Monmouth Independence Network) is a municipally owned fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet provider serving residents and businesses in Polk County, Oregon, primarily in Monmouth and Independence. The network delivers high-speed fiber internet, data services, and voice communications through a community-owned broadband infrastructure.

When Was MINET Created?

MINET was established in 2004 to bring reliable, modern broadband to the community after incumbent telecom providers declined to upgrade aging infrastructure or expand high-speed internet services in the area.

Who Owns MINET?

MINET is publicly owned by the cities of Monmouth and Independence, Oregon. The network was formed through an Intergovernmental Agreement under Oregon Revised Statute (ORS) 190, allowing the two cities to jointly create and operate a community broadband utility.

Why Was MINET Created?

MINET was created to:

  • Provide reliable high-speed fiber internet to local residents and businesses

  • Replace outdated telecommunications infrastructure

  • Ensure local control of broadband services

  • Support economic development and digital connectivity in Polk County

As a community-owned fiber network, MINET focuses on delivering fast, dependable broadband while reinvesting in the local infrastructure that supports Monmouth and Independence.
